Manipulating Porous Matter
SIM² recently published a Research Spotlight interview featuring Recyclear, a project from our group that tackles one of recycling's most overlooked bottlenecks: sorting. Christian Steuwe, Lukas Brijs and Zhou Fang explain how a simple spray can make antimony-containing plastics glow under UV light, allowing sorting machines to recover valuable metals from electronic waste that would otherwise be lost. The technology is already being extended to lead-detection in PVC and to sorting copper ore from waste rock.
