Navid and Ali join our group

We welcome a new postdoc and Ph.D. student to the Ameloot Group!

Navid joins the group after completing his PhD on the development of topology optimization methods for monolithic catalysts in non-isothermal reactors, followed by two years of postdoctoral research on green ammonia production and techno-economic analysis of high-pressure water electrolysis systems. In our group, he will numerically investigate key parameters influencing adsorption-based gas and vapor separations and optimize implementation aspects.

Ali earned his Master’s degree in Nanotechnology Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome. His thesis focused on the fabrication and characterization of high-k dielectric stacks based on Al₂O₃ and TiO₂ for electronic applications, pursued in collaboration with the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) institute in Trento, Italy. He then continued as a researcher in the Micro and Nanofabrication Department at FBK, where he developed, optimized, and characterized thin films using DC/RF magnetron reactive sputtering and advanced microfabrication techniques to optimize process recipes. Ali later joined the Brandenburg University of Technology in Germany as a Research Associate. As part of a DFG-funded project, he investigated hot-electron plasmonic-enhanced photodetectors for Mid-IR applications, focusing on the design, fabrication, and development of ultra-doped GeSn-based plasmonic nanoantennas and infrared photodetectors on silicon platforms. In the Ameloot group, Ali’s research will focus on the deposition of metal–organic framework (MOF) thin films using ALD/MLD techniques and their integration into chemical sensor devices for VOC detection.

Glad to have you both on board!
